The Diocesan Tribunal is the judicial side of the administration and governance of the Diocese of Bridgeport. The Tribunal functions as a court where people can bring petitions to adjudicate issues involving their rights or status, or to resolve canonical contentions between parties. The Tribunal processes these issues in accord with the Canon Law of the Roman Catholic Church. It does not handle questions which belong to civil courts.
The majority of cases handled by the Tribunal involve the adjudication of cases
for the nullity of marriage. Persons wishing to present such cases usually begin
with their parish priest or deacon, who helps them to prepare the initial materials.
The Tribunal then reviews the case to determine whether there is reason to open
a case for nullity.
