Service becomes cornerstone of education
February 21, 2012

FAIRFIELD—Two hundred students from Notre Dame Catholic High School were given the opportunity of February 2 to give of themselves through different types of service in solidarity with each other.  Notre Dame Service Day is a great reminder to the students that anyone can serve, and that service comes in many different forms.  Service has become a cornerstone of a Notre Dame education. Congratulations to all the students for helping our mission come alive through service to others.

Some of the service projects which students participated in, as part of our celebration of Catholic Schools Week, included tutoring and assisting in classrooms at schools and preschools including Our Lady of Grace in Stamford, All Saints School in Norwalk, St. Peter School in Bridgeport, Park City Prep in Bridgeport, Sister Theresa Day Care in Bridgeport, St. Catherine's Academy in Fairfield, St. Ambrose School,  St. Raphael School, and St. Andrews School - all in Bridgeport, St. Theresa School in Trumbull and Assumption School in Fairfield. Students also served as Big Brothers/Big Sisters by bringing third grade students from St. Augustine School in Bridgeport to see a show at the Downtown Cabaret. Other students helped by volunteering at the Ansonia Nature Center, Homes for the Brave, CCA Norwalk, Merton House, Sterling House, Caroline House, Community Soup Kitchen in New Haven and the Carlton Nursing Home.
