The largest group of friars in the U.S. launches a new way to pray for modern world!

NEW YORK, NY—January 8, 2013 – You can now have faith at your fingertips! Holy Name Province, the largest group of Franciscan Friars in the U.S, today announces that friars are now accepting prayer intentions via text messaging through their new “Text a Prayer Intention to a Franciscan Friar” program.

Simply text the word PRAYER To: 306-44 and hit send. Senders will then receive a welcome message inviting them to then send in their prayer intentions. Senders will receive a text in reply stating that their prayer has been received and will be prayed for.

“We are very pleased to ring in 2013 with our new Text a Prayer Intention to a Franciscan Friar program,” said Father David Convertino, Executive Director of Development for the Franciscan Friars of Holy Name Province. “With technology changing the way we communicate, we needed to offer people an updated way to ask for prayers for special intentions and needs either for themselves or others. We have been working on this for some time and it’s a great way to bring in the New Year.  If the pope can tweet, friars can text!”

For 800 years men and women have been inspired to follow the way of St. Francis of Assisi, joyfully bringing the Gospel message to people of every age and culture. In that spirit, the Franciscan Friars of Holy Name Province have dedicated themselves to serving the People of God for over a century.
Holy Name Province is the largest province of the world-wide Order of Friars Minor (O.F.M.) in the United States, with men ministering in colleges, urban ministry centers, parishes, overseas missions and a wide variety of social services reaching out to the very poor in our society. Following the popular spirit of St. Francis of Assisi the Franciscans try to meet people where they are and respond to the genuine needs of the least of the Lord's brothers and sisters.

Fr. David said, “This is one more way of reaching people who ask us to pray for them. We hope it can reach people all around the globe.”
