Bridgeport, CT "On February 22, the second 40 Days for Life campaign begins here in Bridgeport," said Gene D'Agostino spokesperson for the effort. The campaign will feature prayer and fasting, community outreach, and a 40-day prayer vigil outside the Summit Women's Center at 3787 Main Street. "We know 40 Days for Life has made a positive impact in our community," said Christine Murphy, vigil coordinator, "last year, many unborn lives were saved and their parents spared the grief of abortion by the prayers, fasting and peaceful witness of hundreds of Christian faithful in the Bridgeport area."
The 40 Days for Life campaign will kickoff February 18 with a 9am Mass and rally at the Catholic Center on 238 Jewett Ave. in Bridgeport followed by a procession and blessing of the vigil site. "We are tremendously blessed that our local Bishop, His Excellency William E. Lori, will offer the Mass and bless the site where the faithful will gather during the 40 Days of prayer." said Sr. Mary Concepta, Director of the Office for Respect Life Ministry in the Diocese of Bridgeport.
Leaders from other Churches and organizations in this effort will also speak at the rally including Pastor Hector Muniz of Lighthouse Fellowship Church, Reverend Christopher Leighton of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Darien and Patti Quartuccio, Director of Hopeline Pregnancy Resource Center in Bridgeport.
"We want to draw members of the community together to share the vision of 40 Days for Life and to pray for God's blessings on this effort. Even one child lost to abortion is a tragedy since every life is infinitely precious." said Sr. Mary Concepta, "We also hope to draw attention to the harm abortion has done to women and our entire community. Local pregnancy centers are ready to help each woman find the resources she needs to give life to her child."
40 Days for Life is an intensive pro-life initiative that focuses on 40 days of prayer, fasting, and peaceful vigil at abortion facilities. The 40-day time frame is drawn from examples throughout Biblical history where God brought about world-changing transformation in 40-day periods.
"40 Days for Life has generated proven lifesaving results since its beginning in 2004 in Bryan/College Station, Texas," said David Bereit, national director of 40 Days for Life. "During eight previous coordinated campaigns, more than 430 communities have participated in this effort. More than 500,000 people representing some 14,000 churches have committed to pray and fast. And we know of at least 5,000 unborn children whose lives were spared from abortion during 40 Days for Life campaigns."
