Job Title: Director, Youth Ministry, Office for Pastoral Services, Diocese of Bridgeport

The Office for Pastoral Services at the Catholic Center, Bridgeport, has an opening for a Director of Youth Ministry, reporting to the Director of the Office of Pastoral Services.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 40 hours a week. Must be available a few weekends a year for retreats, pilgrimages, parish visits, etc.

Brief summary of duties: The Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport is currently seeking a full-time Director of Youth Ministry to provide leadership in ministry efforts for middle school and high school youth. 

Responsibilities include collaborating with youth ministry leaders to develop and/or strengthen effective and comprehensive youth ministry in all parishes. 

The Director will continue to provide comprehensive formation for Youth Ministers that is faithful to the teachings of the Magisterium and train youth ministers to respond to the call for a New Evangelization with creative and effective ministry methods. 

The Director organizes diocesan wide programs and youth ministry events while also encouraging youth to attend large Catholic youth events regionally, and world wide with a priority to attend youth events with our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI at gatherings like World Youth Day. 

Other duties also include promoting the attainment of religious awards in Catholic Scouting and coordinating a Diocesan Committee to update the Pastoral Guidelines for preparation to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. 

Applicant must be comfortable working with youth and adult youth leaders of diverse cultures.  

Minimum requirements: A Catholic faithful to the teachings of the Church with the energy and zeal to evangelize youth and involve them in all aspects of the Christian life.  The candidate must have some years of experience as a Youth Minister, a strong theological background (preferably a Masters Degree in Theology), pastoral and catechetical experience, and demonstrate strong administrative, organizational, and communication skills.

Job Title: Custodian, Catholic Center, Bridgeport

There is an opening for a Custodian at the Catholic Center in Bridgeport, reporting to the Manager of Facilities.

Position Summary: The Custodian position provides cleaning services, e.g. trash removal, mopping, vacuuming, restroom cleaning etc. in the Catholic Center and Queen of Saints Retreat Center.

Classification: Hourly

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in keeping the Catholic Center and Queen of Saints Retreat Center, including restrooms/hallways clean throughout the day with minimal supervision.
  • Cleans restrooms; Cleans kitchen sink, counters, coffee maker, and microwave.
  • Dusts all furniture in office areas, mops kitchen, bathrooms and front office entrance floors, and cleans windowsills.
  • Wipes down refrigerator, wipes baseboards, dusts blinds and ceiling corners, vacuums along baseboards and in corners.
  • Performs monthly, semiannual, or annual janitorial duties and projects as directed by the Manager of Facilities and in accordance with maintenance schedules.
  • Secures and stores all cleaning supplies and equipment after completion of cleaning
  • Maintains an OSHA and Diocese of Bridgeport approved supply of furniture polish, window cleaner, all-purpose cleaners, cloths in a closet accessible to staff members.
  • Orders all needed supplies through supervisor.
  • Maintains all cleaning equipment in a safe and working order.
  • Uses only approved cleaning products and cloths for computer and electronic equipment.
  • Assists in the set up of conference room furniture as directed.

Position Qualifications:

  • Must possess necessary janitorial skills and knowledge.
  • Ability to perform outlined tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with cleaning/janitorial equipment and supplies and their safe use and storage.
  • Position is subject to criminal background check.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Fluency in the English language.
  • Availability for occasional overtime hours as required.

Working Conditions and Physical Qualifications:

  • Full range of physical motion including manual articulation, bending, stooping, lifting of up to 60 pounds and climbing.  Average level of vision and hearing.
  • Position may require exposure to chemicals, dust, dirt, and bacteria.
  • Employee must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and be eligible to legally work in the State of Connecticut.
  • The position may require reporting to work before or remaining after regular office hours.
