EAGER SWIMMERS AND CHEERING CROWDS will join on Sat., Aug. 7 for the 23rd Annual St. Vincent’s SWIM Across the Sound Marathon fundraiser. Approximately 280 swimmers accompanied by a fleet of 110 boats will launch off Danford’s Marina in Port Jefferson, NY at 8:30 a.m., starting the 15.5 mile journey across the Sound to Captain’s Cove Seaport in Bridgeport. This year’s swim field is composed of 10 solo swimmers, 45 team relays of four to six swimmers and two two-person relays. The fastest swimmers are expected to cross the finish line at Captain’s Cove at approximately 2:30 p.m. The bulk of them will finish at approximately 4:30 p.m. In addition to the opportunity to cheer the swimmers home, Captain’s Cove will be alive with music, entertainment, vendor booths, boardwalk shops and the restaurant. Children of all ages will enjoy the GE Children’s Tent. For a $5 donation per child, they can partake in face painting, a drumming circle, Discovery Museum activities, arts & crafts and their choice of ice cream and toppings. An awards ceremony will take place at approximately 7 p.m., after all swimmers have finished.

PRAY FOR PEACE WALK
Mon August 23

From Boston to the Bronx will begin Mon., Aug. 23. Al Forte invites walkers to join him for any section of the walk, starting with a short walk from Old North Church to Fenway Park in Boston.

Walking from 7-10 a.m. and 5-8 p.m. to avoid the heat of the day, walkers will go from Boston to Providence, RI, then to Hartford and New Haven and down the Post Rd. to Yankee Stadium in time for the Yankees/Red Sox game on Sept. 24.

SCRIPTURE STUDY
Throughout the month of September

Scripture Study at St. Jude Parish in Monroe will start in September, offering groups at different times throughout month to discuss various parts of the Bible. It is not necessary to have attended the first week (Sept. 8-11) to participate.

Two groups will study "Matthew: The King and His Kingdom," exploring how Jesus inaugurated the Kingdom of Heaven on earth on Wed. mornings, 9:30-11:30 a.m., and Thurs. evenings from 7:30-9 p.m.

A Wed. evening program, "The Bible Timeline," held from 7:70-9 p.m., consists of reading the fourteen narrative books of the Bible in order.

Fri. mornings will welcome the Little Rock Scripture Study "Pilgrim People" from 9:30-11:15 a.m.

Starting Sat., Sept. 25, 7-8:15 a.m., the Men's Bible Study will allow men to talk about the "Good News" with their brothers in Christ. Cost varies, depending on the program.
